Secondary Glazing
Secondary glazing helps increase energy efficiency and reduce noise, while retaining existing external windows
Our secondary glazing systems that are made from Accoya, our preferred wood, come with extensive guarantees.
Bespoke Timber Secondary Glazing for your Windows
Our timber secondary glazing solutions are unique depending on the configuration of the existing casement or sash windows that are to be retained and on the individual design choice. Some of the period designs we can replicate include: Georgian windows; Edwardian windows; and Victorian windows.
Secondary Glazing for Listed Buildings
We have been manufacturing and installing wooden secondary glazing into Grade II listed buildings and period homes across London and Southern England for 30 years.
Not to be confused with double glazed windows, our secondary glazing service involves fitting an additional window internally, in front of the existing external sash or casement window.
All our secondary glazing is manufactured from our workshops in Berkshire and fitted by our expert installers.
Secondary Glazing Benefits
There are numerous benefits of installing secondary glazing in your home.
Secondary glazing can be of particular benefit if you own a listed building or are restricted by planning constraints, as it enables you to improve the energy efficiency of your home while retaining the existing windows.
Having an additional window installed can also increase the security of your home, providing an additional obstacle to stop unwanted intruders.
We manufacture bespoke, secondary glazing units and offer a range of different glazing, ironmongery and paint options.
Like our replacement timber windows and doors, we recommend using a timber called Accoya, which is highly durable and stable and comes with a 50 year anti-rot guarantee.
Reducing heat loss in listed buildings
Historic England has reported that heat losses by conduction and radiation through a window can be reduced by over 60% by installing secondary glazing with Low-E glass facing externally.
By having secondary glazing with insulated frames or double glazed units were found to improve thermal efficiency futher.
Listed properties have greater restrictions on them and limitations as to what work can be carried out. To find out more, view our listed properties and conservation area guide.

Like double glazing, installing secondary glazing can help improve thermal insulation, offering energy cost savings. It can also help reduce noise by creating an extra barrier for external noise coming into your home.
In addition to secondary glazing, we also offer replacement sash windows and timber casement windows which, depending on planning constraints, can either be double glazed or single glazed. We also offer a draught proofing service for existing wooden windows.
