Bi-Glass: Re-glazing & Double Glazing

The Sash Window Workshop’s Bi-Glass system allows us to double glaze and re-glaze existing timber windows.

Bi-Glass is the trade name for a simple service that allows us to carry out draught sealing combined with re-glazing work.

If your existing sash or casement windows are single glazed, cold and draughty but have solid timber frames we can often fit double glazing to improve energy efficiency. Re-glazing using our Bi-Glass service always includes our comprehensive draught sealing service.

Bi-Glass System vs Replacement Sashes

Not to be confused with secondary glazing, which requires new windows to be manufactured and installed, The Sash Window Workshop’s Bi-Glass system is designed to refurbish and upgrade your existing, original sashes.

Bi-Glass offers double glazing without requiring the sashes or whole window to be replaced. This means that it is cheaper than replacing the timber windows.

The Bi-Glass process is as follows:

  • Removal of the moving parts of the sash window
  • Removal of the existing glass
  • Re-glazing with either a single or double glazed unit
  • Full draught seal service
  • Re-fitting

Established in 1994, we have extensive experience repairing and upgrading timber windows and doors in period properties. All our Bi-Glass work is guaranteed for 5 years.

Benefits of Double Glazed Units

If you have single glazed windows, refurbishing and upgrading the windows to be double glazed can provide multiple benefits to your home.

Double glazing can offer energy cost savings by improving the thermal efficiency of your home. This is due to double glazing creating a space of insulating air between two panes of glass. This enables double glazing to keep the heat within your home, making a huge difference to the warmth of your home and saving you money.

Increased security is another benefit of double glazed units. Having double glazed units are better than single glazed units to stop unwanted intruders. While refurbishing your windows we can also replace the ironmongery and locks to further improve the security of your home.

Double glazing can also help reduce the noise in your property, by creating an extra barrier for noise looking to enter your home. At The Sash Window Workshop we will always draught proof your windows as part of our bi-glass service, allowing you to take advantage of the extra benefits provided by draught proofing your windows.

“I have used Sash Window Workshop twice now to install their Bi-Glass product. Highly recommended as the product, service and staff are excellent. Restored my period windows perfectly without destroying the character yet enhancing sound and heat insulation.” – Mr B, London.
