Why we love timber patio doors

In an interview with The Telegraph, Daybreak’s Helen Fospero revealed the fact that each room had patio doors proved to be the key selling point for her flat in Shepherd’s Bush, West London. While she had always envisioned herself in a Victorian property, the sense of space and light offered by the flat persuaded her to snap it up.

She’s not alone. Throwing open timber patio doors onto a small stretch of decking, or larger, more resplendent garden, is an activity often cherished during the warm, summer months.

Patio doors are often sought after by buyers for a number of reasons including:

  • Sliding patio doors can help homeowners make the most of limited balcony space.
  • Walls can be opened up to install patio doors offering homeowners uninterrupted views of the surrounding area.
  • Patio doors can help flood more natural light into an otherwise dark room.
  • Patio doors can help connect a garden and dining area, making it easier to entertain friends and family.

However, it is important to ensure your patio doors and the outside garden is well maintained to reap the full benefits of your timber doors.

As well as this, you may need some exterior furniture. Match the wood type and style of your furniture to the doors and windows. Add some finishing touches with a few plants and climbers and you are almost done.

The key to a beautiful patio is keeping it clean and tidy on a regular basis. Use it whenever you can and sweep and clean every now and then. If you can keep it in a reasonable state, even over the winter, then you will be far more inclined to use it. Get yourself into this kind of positive cycle and it will be like having an extended part of the house.
