With the start of the New Year you may be attempting to stick to New Year’s resolutions of things you would like to achieve. So why not make a resolution that will help improve the security and comfort of your home?
Having traditional windows that match the period style of your home shouldn’t mean that you have to settle for worse security or a colder home.
When looking to install windows, it is important to check the energy rating or U-value of the replacement windows. U-value is the measurement of how quickly the heat from the inside leaks to the outside. Lower U-values have better insulation.
EWER (European Window Energy Ratings) and BFRC ratings also tell you how energy-efficient the windows are and are similar to the energy ratings you will find on household appliances with A-rated windows being the most energy-efficient.
By installing replacement timber windows from The Sash Window Workshop you can double glaze your home while still installing bespoke new windows that are in keeping with the architectural style of the building. Each double glazed timber window we manufacture is individual and bespoke, allowing us to replicate any design or pattern, retaining the feel of your period home. Depending on the style and type of window you are looking to install, our windows have U-values ranging from 1.4 to 1.7 and energy ratings between A and C.
If you live in a listed property, it is important to note that you may not be allowed to install replacement, double glazed windows. However, secondary glazing is often an alternative option in grade II listed buildings to increase thermal efficiency. If you own a listed property, read our listed building guide for more information on what work can normally be carried out.
If you decide to install replacement windows, it is worth looking at installing new window furniture at the same time. Window locks need to be hard wearing and able to secure your home effectively. Check that the locks you are being offered are of high quality and meet any insurance requirements.
