Are your timber windows rattling in the wind? Did you know that you may not have to replace your windows to stop them rattling?

Draught proofing rattling windows

Rattling occurs when there is a gap between the moving parts of the window (the sashes) and the window frame. When it is windy, this can cause rattling when the sashes move about within the frame.

Without draught proofing, the gaps around a typical single sash window can add up to the equivalent of 6 square inches.

Depending on the condition of your timber windows, draught proofing can often stop rattling sashes as well as reduce the cold draughts coming into your home.

At The Sash Window Workshop as part of our draught proofing and overhaul service we will seal the window using draught proofing material, ensure your windows are opening and closing correctly and fit new locks and furniture when required. If your sash windows are dropping when you open them, we can replace the cords and weights at the same time.

If your windows are in a poor condition, we can also replace them with like-for-like timber windows which are made to measure in our workshops in Berkshire. All our replacement windows are draught proofed as part of the installation process.
