There are few homeowners in the country who wouldn’t want to increase the value of their home, especially if they are considering putting their property on the market. However, many may be deterred by the prospect of investing money in their home, without getting immediate returns.

To quell those fears, here are just a few ways you can add more to your property for less:

Get the exterior looking as good as the interior

While we wouldn’t dream of leaving our internal walls looking anything less than their very best, chipping paint or less than smooth rendering has blighted many exterior walls. Giving our home a fresh lick of paint on the outside, will definitely add to its curb appeal. Other ways to spruce up your home on the outside include: reviving your front garden with some new plants/turf and re-painting your garden gate.

Make the most of your hallway space

The hallway is the first space that buyers will normally see in a home and having it cluttered with stray shoes and a rack that is overflowing with coats will definitely be a turn-off for buyers. Moving some of these items into an out of sight storage area, even if just for viewings, will help to create a sense of space. Putting horizontal mirrors on both hallway walls will also create the illusion of additional space.

Revamp your bathroom

As well as changing your shower curtain and bath mat, you can also freshen up the look of your bathroom with new taps, a heated chrome towel rail and a big new shower head.

Stage each room for its purpose

Even if the spare room has long been the dumping ground in your home, to help buyers along with envisioning themselves in your home you should ensure that each room is staged appropriately, e.g. put a single bed, chest of drawers in the spare room and a table and chairs in the dining room.

If you are considering renovating your home, The Sash Window Workshop can help with many aspects, including if you are planning on changing your exterior front doors.
