When looking to restore your timber sash windows, it is important to ensure that you employ a professional who has experience working on similar period properties.

At The Sash Window Workshop we wide range of experience working on a number of different timber sash windows, from one over one Victorian sash windows, to Edwardian bay windows and six over six Georgian sash windows.

Traditional timber windows were made to last.  This means that with regular maintenance they can last up to a hundred years.  It is therefore often worth looking into refurbishing the original, existing windows as opposed to replacing them.

Give them a good clean

It’s amazing the difference a good scrub down can make to overall appearance.  Dig out those rubber gloves and some window cleaner and wash those windows until they sparkle.  Clean windows enhance the appeal of both the exterior and interior of a property, and make your home look well-maintained and cared for.

Change the lock

If you’re worried about security then updating the lock on your sash windows is a very quick job to complete.  Choose an option that matches the style of your property (sticking with traditional colours, such as brass and gold is often recommended) and ensure it is fitted correctly.

Consult a Professional

If your windows require repair, contact an expert to carry out a site survey to inspect your windows in detail in order to provide you with a quotation that is appropriate for your window’s condition.  They should be happy to provide you with advice on refurbishing and restoring your windows, to ensure that you receive the correct service for your requirements.

It is worth considering who will actually be carrying out the work.  Unless you receive a quotation from a sole trader, it is unlikely that the same person who is selling you the work will also be carrying out the restoration.  Ask to see images of other work that the company or individual has previously carried out and check whether they are members of any accredited organisations, such as: the Safe Contractor Scheme or Which? Trusted Trader.

It is also worth checking whether the company operates from one location, or multiple different offices across the country.  Having multiple different offices can results in it becoming a postcode lottery as to the level of service you receive.  At The Sash Window Workshop, we operate from a central office in Berkshire, allowing us to ensure that we provide a consistent high level service and product to all our customers.

The Sash Window Workshop offers a wide range of timber window restoration services across London and the South, including: draught sealing and overhaul; re-glazing and double glazing Bi-Glass services; and a minor repairs service for central London.
