It is important to inspect your windows regularly to check that they still work properly and do not let in draughts

If you notice any problems, it is advisable to get them fixed before the situation escalates.  The Sash Window Workshop offers a choice of timber window refurbishment and restoration services. These comprise:

  • Minor easing, maintenance and adjustment, as part of our draught sealing service
  • Painting windows, as part of our redecorating service
  • Complete window re glazing using our unique Bi-Glass system
  • Minor repair service for period properties located within central London.

Our refurbishment products are excellent quality and value, but we will only recommend them to you if we believe they represent a good long term investment.  If your windows or doors are beyond repair we will always recommend partial or full replacement.

Draught Sealing

The gaps around a typical single sash window can add up to the equivalent of 6 square inches. Without draught sealing, draughts, dust, dirt and noise all flood into your home and heat rushes out, leaving you feeling uncomfortable and costing you money in heating bills.

If your windows are draughty and rattling, The Sash Window Workshop’s draught proofing and overhaul service is designed to bring new life to any timber window and will dramatically improve performance at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Draught proofing helps bring your old timber windows into the 21st century, whilst retaining the aesthetic character and charm of your home.  We are specialists and have worked for over 20 years across a number of listed buildings and period properties, including Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian homes.

If you own a listed building, existing timber windows can normally be draught sealed and overhauled without requiring planning permission.

Our draught seal service comprises:

  • Draught sealing
  • Repairs to damaged timber or glazing
  • Fitting new ironmongery and locks

Re Glazing - Bi-Glass

We use our unique Bi-Glass system for double glazing and re glazing existing timber windows.  Bi-Glass is the trade name for a simple mobile service that allows us to carry out draught sealing combined with re-glazing work at your home.

If your existing sash or casement windows are single glazed, cold, and draughty we can fit double glazing into most existing frames to improve their energy efficiency. Re glazing using the Bi-Glass service always includes our comprehensive draught sealing service.

The Bi-Glass process is as follows:

  • Removal of the moving parts of the sash window
  • Removal of the existing glass
  • Re-glazing with either a single or double glazed unit
  • Full draught seal service
  • Re-fitting

Painting

Your windows should be regularly painted as part of their on-going maintenance. When painting period timber windows, it is important to ensure that the windows are treated sympathetically, as badly painted windows can reduce the value of your property and may damage them.

We are able to offer a specialist redecoration service for the repainting of period timber windows, alongside our draught sealing and overhaul service.
